Elevating Lactation Support: A Modern Learning Platform

Creating a Flexible, Engaging Experience for NHS Healthcare Workers and Parents

I recently worked on an exciting project for Sarah Oakley Lactation, where we designed a new website and online learning platform to support NHS healthcare professionals and parents dealing with lactation issues and tongue tie. The goal was to create an accessible, versatile platform that supports a wide range of educational needs—from live webinar sessions to downloadable factsheets, face-to-face event bookings, and engaging online courses with quizzes and certification.

A Thoughtful Approach to a Complex Project

Before diving into development, we conducted a detailed consultation period to select the right Learning Management System (LMS) for Sarah’s needs. The goal was to find an LMS that could support the variety of features required—live webinars, downloadable resources, quizzes, certifications, and seamless integration with other tools—while being user-friendly for both learners and administrators.

The challenge was to ensure that all these diverse elements worked smoothly together, providing a seamless experience for both users and the business owner. The first phase of development involved reformatting Sarah’s existing online course content, utilising existing videos and materials. By giving the content a cleaner, more organised look, we aimed to make it easy for both parents and NHS healthcare professionals to navigate and learn effectively.

The next phase will take the course experience even further. We plan to rewrite the existing content to create a more interactive, engaging experience, and develop additional self-paced courses tailored for both professionals and parents.

Integrations that Simplify the Experience

To keep things easy for Sarah, we integrated the platform with several existing systems, ensuring that the administrative side is as seamless as the user experience. Integrations with Cliniko, Zoom, and Eventbrite allow for streamlined booking of face-to-face events, live webinars, and client consultations. We also built in a self-managed enrolment system and payment gateways, significantly reducing the time and cost of course administration.

This project is just the beginning. The aim has always been to support Sarah’s work by making her online presence flexible and scalable, so it can grow alongside her practice. As we develop more courses and enhance the existing ones, the site will continue to be a valuable resource for both professionals and parents seeking support in lactation and tongue tie issues.
